A Virtual Trip to Italy
Travel with us to the Lombardy Region of Italy, to the childhood home of St. Pope John XXIII in Sotto il Monte. The family home and birthplace of the Canonized Pope was donated to the PIME Missionaries because of his lifelong passion for the missions, and the charitable spirit that he recognized in the missionaries from the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions. Together we will take a virtual trip to this beautiful area in the north of Italy!
If you would like to leave an intention to be presented and prayed for at the shrine to St. Pope John XXIII in Sotto il Monte, please follow the button below.
The evening’s menu
brought to you by our PIME Missionary chefs
Dish #1: Handmade Pasta
Fr. Daniele Criscione, PIME
Learn how to make pasta from scratch with our US Mission Center Director, Fr. Daniele Criscione, PIME. Originally hailing from Sicily, Fr. Daniele is passionate about cooking Italian cuisine, something that reminds him of home. Based in PIME’s Detroit offices he helps to connect supporters in the US with those who desperately need their help in the missions.
Dish #2: Bolognese Sauce
Fr. Alessandro Maraschi, PIME
Fr. Alessandro Maraschi, PIME, will show us how to prepare a bolognese sauce to accompany our pasta. Originating from the home of the PIME Missionaries, Milan, Italy, Fr. Maraschi has a new home as a missionary among the poorest of the poor in the urban sprawl of Mexico City. Here, he ministers to a diverse collection of people including many Native Mexicans.
Dish #3: Tiramisu
Fr. Alessandro Canali, PIME
Finally, Fr. Alessandro Canali, PIME, will cap off our night by showing us how to make an Italian favorite dessert, Tiramisu. A PIME Missionary from Lecco, Italy, north of Milan, Fr. Canali works with youth as Outreach Coordinator at the Mission Center in Italy.
Registrants in the Metro Detroit area can visit Cantoro’s Italian Market in Plymouth, Michigan, to gather all the ingredients listed on their recipe cards!
The Taungngu Diocese in Myanmar is one of the most remote and difficult to access in the country. A very poor area already COVID-19, and the recent unrest in the country, has made life here even more difficult.
This project will provide direly needed food for 300 families in seven villages across the diocese to be able to survive the impact of the ongoing pandemic.
