Because of your support, they can do so much for so many. Not only can they provide health care to those suffering with Hansen’s disease, tuberculosis and AIDS/HIV. They can care for needy children and build chapels and churches. They can provide educational opportunities and feed hungry families. And most importantly, they can proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the work of the PIME Missionaries – but they can’t do it alone. A few weeks ago, we began our Lenten journey. We were marked with ashes as a symbol of humility and sacrifice. It’s a good time to take stock of our progress. Have our hearts too been marked? Are we allowing ourselves to be transformed? Are we letting go of the things that have kept us from Jesus, and embraced those things that will unite us to Him? Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are the simple tools the Church reminds us to use on our journey. By communicating more fully with God, sacrificing material things, and sharing with one another, we allow ourselves to be open to grace. Grace that will impact us – and our world – profoundly. For the last five months, we’ve been sharing stories with you about the work of the PIME Missionaries as part of our Mission Cooperation Plan. We’ve invited you to take part in that plan by praying for us and offering sacrificial gifts for the general works of our missionaries. It’s time that we evaluate our progress there, too. While at this time we are falling short of our original goal, we remain optimistic. Now, we are redoubling our efforts to provide for the needs of our missionaries. Can you help us in giving alms this Lent? With your help we can continue to proclaim the Gospel and serve the many who need our help in mission countries. We can complete the mission God has entrusted to us. We are very grateful for your support. It is truly humbling to ask for assistance, and to have so many open their hearts to our needs. In a very real way, we have witnessed the movement of grace, thanks to the generosity of our Mission Cooperators. Thank you for your continued prayers.
